Mocht de PDF niet door uw firewall heenkomen dan kunt u deze ook downloaden via onze website: http://www.cobidoc.nl/Tips_van_de_Helpdesk_Juni_2010 top | | WPIFV komt te vervallen | The Derwent World Patents Index First ViewSM (DWPI First ViewSM, file WPIFV) database will no longer be available after July 30, 2010. The final update (201040) will be made around June 25 and the file will then remain static until July 30, allowing users to retrieve any saved search results. During that period, users may see duplicate results between searches run on both DWPI and DWPI First View as we will no longer be removing records from DWPI First View when they are input into DWPI. Following the retirement, Thomson Reuters will continue to work on the remaining patents in the file, which will be loaded into DWPI as the value-added abstracts and indexing become available. DWPI First View was launched in 2004 to provide faster access to data from new patents not yet available in the main DWPI database (Files WPINDEX, WPIDS and WPIX). In recent years, however, significant improvements have been made to the timeliness of DWPI. On average, records are now being loaded within 15 days of publication date. While the DWPI timeliness improvements greatly benefit users, they also impact the content and size of DWPI First View. The amount of time patent records are stored in DWPI First View has been considerably reduced, as well as the overall size of DWPI First View in terms of the number of patents in the file at any particular time. These factors have diminished the value of DWPI First View for customers. The main DWPI database will not be affected by this change and records will continue to be produced as normal. Alert/SDI searches running in DWPI First View can be migrated to the main DWPI file to provide a continued alerting service. top | | Enhanced Batch Search Options in DGENE, USGENE and PCTGEN | As of June 21 2010, offline sequence searching is now available for exact sequence searches (GETSEQ) in the three sequence databases DGENE, USGENE and PCTGEN. This new search option is especially useful for nucleotide sequence searches which usually require more computational time than protein searches. Users can now run all sequence searches offline in all three sequence files using the batch search mode: - advanced similarity searches with RUN BLAST and RUN GETSIM
- simple fragment and motif sequence searches with RUN GETSEQ
In addition, offline sequence searching has been enhanced with a new email notification option which allows users to see when batch search results are available for download. This is of great convenience when multiple batch searches have been initiated. Users can easily see when individual searches have been completed. By the end of this week, the new batch search options will also be available for the sequence search assistant in STN® on the WebSM. top | | IPC codes toegevoegd aan INSPEC | Since January 2010 INSPEC (Information Service for Physics, Electronics, and Computing) , produced by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), has been mapping their indexing schemes to the International Patent Classification (IPC) scheme to assign IPC codes to relevant records. The INSPEC implementation of IPC codes is a valuable tool for the prior art searcher, allowing the ready clustering of relevant non-patent literature within the same familiar code structure used for patents. About 75% of INSPEC records contain IPC codes, and the average record with these codes has two assigned to it. The IPC scheme and INSPEC do not cover exactly the same conceptual territory or approach. Consequently the level of precision of the IPC codes applied varies depending on the relationships between the schemes and specific subjects themselves. Users are advised to check the available levels for their subject area of interest before a search. The list of IPC codes (including the various levels) that occur in INSPEC is available at: http://www.stn-international.de/inspec_ipc.html IPC codes in the 2010 INSPEC data became available on STN on February 1, 2010. This has now been extended into the backfile from 1969-2009. Please note, that IPC codes will not be mapped to the Archive data from 1898-1968. The IPC codes are indexed and displayed in the search field /IPC. The standard STN IPC thesaurus is also available. Additionally the combinded code and text is indexed and displayed as bound phrase in the classification code (/CC) field. Single terms from the IPC text are also searchable. top | | Embase verrijkt met backfile data en CAS REGISTRY nummers | The EMBASE Classic backfile, covering records from 1947 through 1973, has been added to the EMBASE database on STN. EMBASE Classic augments the 8.4 million records added to EMBASE earlier this year when the MEDLINE Uniques file segment was added to the database. The backfile contains 1.8 million records from 3,400 international biomedical and pharmacological publications from 1947 through 1973. Get an exclusive bonus of 1.9 million CAS Registry Numbers
While other vendors' versions of EMBASE Classic provide access to substance information via CAS Registry Numbers, STN's implementation is superior. Using the Drug Descriptor Terms in EMBASE Classic records, CAS generated Registry Numbers for 480,000 records that lacked Registry Numbers altogether. Supplemental CAS Registry Numbers were supplied for another 180,000 records. Altogether, CAS added nearly 1.9 million CAS Registry Numbers to these 660,000 enhanced EMBASE Classic records! You can use these CAS Registry Numbers to link the content of EMBASE Classic to the content of the most recent published literature covered in EMBASE and in more than 60 other STN databases containing CAS Registry Numbers.
